How do cultural and biological forces interact to give rise to fundamental psychological processes underlying emotion and social interaction? The Social and Cultural Neuroscience laboratory at Northwestern University addresses these questions using a multi-level, multi-method approach.

Specifically, the lab uses neuroimaging (fMRI), event-related potentials (ERP), genotyping and behavioral paradigms to study universalism and cultural diversity in human emotional and social processes across genetic, neural and behavioral levels of analysis.

In addition to bridging gaps in scholarly knowledge across psychology, neuroscience and molecular biology, an overall goal of the lab is to integrate this interdisciplinary research with real-world public policy and population health issues.
